Kick-off meeting of the Very Light Aircraft (VLA) (design, build, and fly) project was held on March 17, 2018 at Turkish Aerospace Industries facilities. The project is on the design and development of a verly light category aircraft (less than 750 kg) by the METU students and professors, with the support of TAI personnelle. It is a two year project where during the first year METU students and professors from aerospace, mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering and industrial design department will be take part. The aircraft will be build by TAI with the participation of the METU project team. Very Light Aircraft preliminary design review (PDR) was held on November 24, 2018 at the Turkish Aerspace Industries facilities. Preliminary critical design review (pre-CDR) was successfully held on May 4, 2019 at Turkish Aerospace Industries Facilities.
