Dr. Harika S. Kahveci received her Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 2010. She earned her Bachelors degree in Aeronautical
Engineering from METU in Ankara, Turkey, in 2002, and her Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State University in 2004. Dr. Kahveci's professional and
academic background provides her with both experimental and computational expertise in her field. Her masters studies at Penn State focused on helicopter rotor flow visualization
with Stereoscopic PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) measurements at the Turbomachinery Aero-Heat Transfer Laboratory,
where she worked with Prof. Cengiz Camci. While at
Penn State, she received the UTSR (University Turbine System Research) Gas Turbine Industrial Fellowship Award and spent a summer on the use
of laser applications for flow visualization of fuel nozzle spray atomizers at Parker Hannifin Gas Turbine Fuel Systems Division in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Kahveci's GE career started
at GE Energy in 2004 in the Gas Turbine Acoustics & Aero Design Team in Greenville, South Carolina. She supported hot gas path aero design of high-pressure turbine and compressor
blades for gas turbine engines. In 2006, she attended the GE Aviation University Strategic Alliance Program and worked at the short-duration rotating rig facility of the
Gas Turbine Lab with
Prof. Mike Dunn at The Ohio State University towards her Ph.D, focusing on the vane heat transfer of a GE Aviation engine full-scale high-pressure transonic turbine. After completing
her Ph.D studies, Dr. Kahveci joined the Heat Transfer, Cooling & Sealing Design Team at GE Power & Water in Greenville in 2010, and worked on high-pressure turbine blade cooling and thermal design
of gas turbine engines. In December 2012, she moved to Istanbul transferring to the Thermal Systems Design Team at GE Aviation, and worked in the area of thermal management and
rotor heat transfer of aircraft and aero-derivative engines. In June 2015, Dr. Kahveci received the 2013
Gas Turbine Award which is the prestigious ASME gas turbine industry
award that recognizes outstanding contributions to the literature. She was a Senior Engineer at GE until September 2015. After 11 years of service, Dr. Kahveci left the company for
the faculty position at METU, and joined the Department of Aerospace Engineering in October 2015.
